Implen NanoPhotometer™ - a vital forensic tool
Westlake Village, CA, USA and Munich, Germany (March 02, 2010)
Implen GmbH announces that scientists at the National Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Central Florida have developed a novel blood analysis technique using the NanoPhotometer™ which facilitates the direct analysis of blood stains as part of a criminal investigation.
So far, there is no generally accepted procedure available that enables forensic scientists to determine the age of blood stains at a crime scene. Present methods are either limited in their predictive power or their analytical sensitivity.
However the University of Central Florida, through grants from the US National Institute of Justice and the Forensic Technologies Centre of Excellence (FTCoE), Florida, USA, have identified a novel hypsochromic shift of the Soret band of haemoglobin that allows for bloodstains to be distinguished by age in terms of minutes, hours, days, weeks or months. To be fully effective the analysis should be performed at the actual crime scene and so the NanoPhotometer™ from Implen GmbH, Germany, was selected for this purpose. Its portability, its low volume capability and its overall analytical performance were main arguments for the positive evaluation. The Implen NanoPhotometer™ is also ideally suited for the quantification of DNA following extraction, enzymatic activity or protein quantification.

Mexican Ministry of Agriculture and National Institute for Epidemiology buy Advalytix AmpliSpeed and Implen Nanophotometer to screen for H1N1 (Swine Flu) and agricultural pathogens
Munich, Germany and Mexico City, Mexico (June 4, 2009) –The Advalytix product team of Olympus, Implen, and AmpliBio jointly announce that the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture (SAGARPA) awarded AmpliBio a contract for 17 GENE LABs – AmpliBio’s turnkey solution for molecular analysis. Each GENE LAB will contain Advalytix’s AmpliSpeed single cell molecular analysis cycler, and Implen’s Nanophotometer™ to quantify DNA, RNA and protein in sub µl samples. Separately, AmpliBio is supplying the Mexican Institute for Epidemiology (INdRE) with Nanophotometers to increase the institute’s capacity to screen for H1N1.
“Using AmpliSpeed cyclers and AmpliGrid slides we plan to screen fish and shrimp eggs imported to Mexico for over 20 viral and bacterial pathogens. AmpliGrid slides greatly simplify single cell handling, allow us to detect minute amounts of pathogen, and save reagents due to their 1µl reaction volumes,” said Biol. Ernesto Ontiveros, representative of SAGARPA.
“After a highly competitive bidding process, we decided to invest in Implen’s Nanophotometer due to the instrument’s compact size, on-board computer control, versatility, precision and maintenance free design” said Dr. Ernesto Ramirez, representative of InDRE.
“We are extremely impressed by AmpliBio’s professionalism, molecular biology know-how, and customer dedication. We are proud that AmpliBio chose AmpliSpeed and the Implen Nanophotometer for their GENE LAB turnkey solution. GENE LAB is a highly unique offer that combines best of class instruments from leading vendors without compatibility worries,” added Frank Feist, Executive Director Olympus America Inc, Advalytix Business.

Successful accreditation of Implen’s NanoPhotometer™
Munich, Germany. January 28, 2008
Implen GmbH today is announcing the successful accreditation of the NanoPhotometer™ at Dr. Horst-Schmidt-Kliniken (Dr. Horst Schmidt Hospitals) in Wiesbaden, Germany according to the European series of standards for medical laboratories DIN EN ISO 15189. The NanoPhotometer™ accomplished all requirements in the context of the accreditation process at the Institute of Pathology and Cytology. The accreditation has been carried out by DAP German Accreditation System for Testing, Berlin, Germany.
The NanoPhotometer™ therefore is applicable to achieve the reliable spectrophotometrical analysis of very small volume nucleic acid and protein samples (starting with 0.7 µl) in laboratories with GMP requirements or accredited facilities. Aside from the small volume applications the system can be utilized for the analysis of standard volume samples (like e.g. kinetics) in standard quartz or plastic cuvettes.
Implen is a leading supplier of instruments and consumables for submicroliter applications and system solutions for microarray based hybridizations and incubations. Implen is manufacturer of the NanoPhotometer™, the LabelGuard™ Microliter Cell and the DiluCell™ and is exclusive distribution partner of Olympus Life Science Research Europe GmbH, Munich, Germany for SlideBooster™ Hybridization Stations and AdvaWash™ Universal Slide Washing Stations for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the UK and Ireland.
The NanoPhotometer™
The worldwide first allrounder for fast and easy analysis of submicroliter and standard volume samples
Munich, Germany. April 24, 2006
Implen GmbH, a Munich based leading supplier of instrumentation and consumables for ultra low volume applications, today is announcing its new product, the NanoPhotometer™.
Designed as routine tool for molecular biology labs the system offers built in methods for nucleic acid or protein analysis, fluorescence dye incorporation and cell density measurements. The required sample volumes start as low as 0.7 µl with an automatic sample dilution of 1/10 or 1/50. In addition the NanoPhotometer™ is also able to handle standard cuvette applications (quartz and plastic) for all kinds of spectrophotometric tasks (full spectrum scans, kinetics, standard curve, etc.).
Equipped with USB or Bluetooth connection, the NanoPhotometer can be linked to a computer network for data export (Excel, ASCII, etc.) and printing exercises. A built-in printer option is also available for the unit. No computer is necessary to operate the NanoPhotometer™, the compact design allows easy transport of the instrument with minimum space requirement on the lab bench.
Implen offers a complete portfolio of products from sample preparation to hybridization as well as post hybridization treatment.
Implen's unique system solutions are designed to achieve improved homogeneity, maximum signal intensity, reduced reaction times and a high discrimination for microarray based applications. As a competent partner for hybridization and incubation experiments Implen also offers application support and seminars.
Implen is supplier of the LabelGuard™ Microliter Cell and is distribution partner of Advalytix AG, Brunnthal, Germany (SlideBooster and ArrayBooster Hybridization Stations, AdvaWash Universal Slide Washing Stations) for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland.
